TAKING SOME LESSONS FROM RIVER'S RERUN ELECTION TOWARDS OUR LAGOS STATE LGA/LCDA ELECTION

Some lessons can be taken from the just concluded State House of Assembly and House of Representative rerun election that was done on march 19, 2016, in Rivers state towards our forth coming  LGA/LCDA election in Lagos state and most especially in our Ejigbo Lcda where the people at the grassroots are feed up with the APC government that have governed us for 16years without infrastructural development and dividend of democracy to show for it.

"In 2015, when Dr Goodluck Jonathan was still in power, the PDP made use of the ‘federal might’ to deal decisively with the then opposition party, APC, in the state. The military, police, DSS, name it, were alleged to have worked for the PDP in 2015 general elections. This explained why the political thugs, drawn mainly, from the ex-militants terrorised the state unhindered.
But when the APC won the election at the federal level , many people thought the rerun election was going to be a smooth one for APC.
Actually, there was heavy presence of security agents in the state, which some persons said would be to the advantage of APC. But it does appear that the APC lacked the knowledge of how to use the ‘federal might’ to win election, like the PDP did in the state in 2015."

However, one lesson to be learnt about Rivers State rerun is that, it is not enough to have ‘federal might’ behind you. Events showed that one also needs to have the grassroots that would harness the so called ‘federal might’. Which means that the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode led Lagos state government will want to use all his might and power to take oshodi/Isolo LGA from the grip of the PDP where we won the four electoral positions at the last general election but if all the masses, electorates and supporters of the PDP stay together to cast their vote, we will win the LGA/lcda election in our oshodi/Isolo LGA again.

We dominate the grassroot here and PDP is widely recognized and supported here. The PDP elders, leaders, executives, members, supporters and aspirations have been working wrong the clock to continue mobilising, politicking and creating awareness for the forth coming 2016 Lagos state LGA/Lcda election.

If we have done it before, we can do it again irrespective of how the APC led government might want to rig the LGA/Lcda election because all the other Apc state that have conducted local government election have not conducted a free and fair election. We are not going to keep quite and keep watching the damages they are doing to democracy because the electorates are clamouring for true democracy.
Thank you everybody.
PDP - Power to the people.

PFN ENGAGES KADUNA ASSEMBLY OVER PREACHING BILLS

Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, says it is currently engaging Kaduna State House of Assembly on the proposed preaching bill.

Addressing a news conference in Kaduna yesterday, PFN state chairman and secretary, Rev. Femi Ehinmidu and Rev. Tony Inwulale, respectively, said though Governor Nasir el-Rufai has sent the executive bill on religious activities in the state to legislators, Pentecostal churches would not protest on the streets or take legal action against the state government.

PFN, while saying it has made its position known to the legislators, noted that there are existing laws in the state that have already taken care of the proposed bill.

PFN added that government should strengthen such laws against violators, stressing that government should properly engage stakeholders on the bill.

PFN explained that the bill, which suggests that the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, should regulate churches, said the body was only a Christians’ block.

It stated: “We are engaging the Kaduna State House of Assembly on the executive bill on religious activities in Kaduna State 2016. We are engaging; we are not protesting on the streets or taking any legal action. There are many laws that legislate on the rights of other people. Let those laws take their full course.”

It would be recalled that CAN, Kaduna State chapter, after a meeting with the state deputy governor, Arch. Barnabas Yusuf Bala, last week over the preaching bill, its chairman, Bishop George Dodo, who led the 12-person CAN delegation, said el-Rufai’s proposed bill should follow lay down constitutional procedures on religious practice.

CAN added that it does not think el-Rufai’s religious bill before legislators would ban Christianity in the state.

STOP THE VIOLENCE - US TELLS APC AND PDP IN RIVERS

The United States government has urged the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party to call their members to order in Rivers State following last Saturday’s re-run election violence in the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the US Embassy in Nigeria said it was concerned about reports of violence, including the “possible targeting of electoral officials, and irregularities during re-run elections in Rivers State on March 19, 2016”.

The US stated that it condemned the use of violence and disruptions of the democratic process in the Rivers poll.

“We call upon the leadership of Nigeria’s political parties to urge their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electoral process.

“We call on those dissatisfied to pursue a resolution of their grievances peacefully in accordance with the rule of law,” the US Embassy said.
